UAAP Season 75 Women's Volleyball: DE LA SALLE Demolished UST in 3 straight sets

This was the game that De la Salle University Lady Spikers had been waiting for. A time to get back to the only team that tormented them.

The Lady Spikers keep their poise throughout the game and rallied to defeat University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in a 30-28, 25-15, 25-19 blowout.

DLSU had it 19-14 but UST came back a with a 7-2 run with Carmela Tunay scoring 5 straight points to tie it up at 22-all. Then there was the exchange of points with both teams committing unforced errors in the net and in the service area.

Kim Fajardo came out strong with her wise reflexes to hold the ground for DLSU. But it was their blocking late in the set that controlled the tempo as Mika Reyes blocked two attacks of UST.

2nd Set
DLSU's confidence took a notch higher as the no.1 blocking team of the league proved to be a hard wall for the Tigresses. The defense of the Lady Spikers was so intense that their starting points came from their blocks.

Sophomore Ara Galang came into the spotlight for DLSU, scoring 5 hits late in the set.

What UST lacked was the presence of Maika Ortiz in the defensive end as coach Odjie Mamon kept on saying during timeouts, "Hindi kita maramdaman. Buti pa ang patay nagpaparamdam. Ikaw hindi ko maramdaman," referring to Ortiz's blocking.

3rd Set
UST had it going on with an 8-4 first technical timeout with service aces. But again, DLSU started to spoil the party with a 5-0 run to push it to 16-13 2nd technical advantage. From there, UST had tried to come back but everytime they would do so, the Lady Spikers answer back.

Again and again, DLSU paced the set with their blockings to dictate the tempo. UST frontliners, Caballejo and Maru Banaticla, were anxious to avoid the blocks that forced them to commit errors.

"Her Airness" Ara Galang lead the De la Salle University Lady Spikers with 20 points on 14 attacks, 2 service aces and a tremendous 4 blocks performance. DLSU is now on an 8-1 win-loss record and sits on the top of the standings.

In the first game, Far Eastern University Lady Tams beat University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in an easy 25-8, 25-12, 25-12 victory.

FEU had 21 good sets from Gyzelle Sy who came out as the Player of the Game with 2 points.

The poor receptions became the waterloo for the UP squad at the lost that brought them on their 9th straight setback. Meanwhile, the Lady Tams is on a roll with their 5th straight win.
